The #1 priority for our brotherhood is earning the best possible grades and taking advantage of all educational opportunities both in and outside the classroom. The Chi Psi Lodge has had a study library since it was first constructed in 1935. Since then, the size of the library has grown with each major renovation. The current library includes eight study carrels, an executive conference table, a large whiteboard, a 55” flat screen tv for zoom conference calls, and a private bathroom. It is situated on the third floor and in the quietest location of the Lodge so you can study there when the Knight library has closed for the evening.

Initiation GPA Requirement

All prospective new members (PNMs) are required to earn a 3.0 GPA for the quarter prior to their initiation. For example, if you are invited to join a Fall pledge class, you would need to earn a 3.0 GPA prior to being initiation in the Winter term, typically at the end of January. PNMs and brothers that fail to earn a 3.0 GPA for the prior quarter are provided peer support and assistance to help them earn better grades in the following quarter.

Those not meeting our expectations for GPA are expected to attend the Study Hours held throughout the week as a part of our Academic Plan.

The Academic Serves not as a punishment for those falling behind in their educational endeavors. But as structured plan to get them back on track.

Scholarships

Our national fraternity is committed to academic excellence across all of our chapters. To support this goal, our National foundation awards 38 scholarships totaling over $168,000. In addition, our local Oregon 501(c) (3) foundation awards scholarships and provides funding for leadership development programs. Most recently, it paid for the expansion and construction of the new study library.

For Fall 2024, four $500 scholarships will be awarded to members initiated in January 2025. The criteria will be a blend of GPA and demonstrated leadership during the pledge period.

To be eligible for said scholarships you must both, meet the criteria held by the scholarship you’re applying for, as well as be in good financial standing with the Chi Psi fraternity.

Study Hours

Study Hours are typically expected to be held between the times of 7:00pm – 10:00pm, on Mondays – Thursdays. Though these may vary in situations where the times contradict another previously decided on event or a chaperone brother is not available.

Every study hours is ran by a brother who acts as a chaperone, assuring that our study hours is kept quiet and productive

Those study hours are required for those not meeting our GPA expectations. Those on the Academic Plan must attend at least 1 study hour period each week and 2 during finals or midterms.
