The COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns, and economic impacts have made this a challenging time for all of us and we hope that you and your families are faring well. University of Oregon has made the difficult yet welcome decision to bring students back onto the Eugene campus for the 2020-21 academic year. While there are details to work-out, it is clear that campus activities will be very different, with extensive requirements and restrictions to prevent virus transmission, including provisions to quarantine and isolate those who show symptoms and test positive.
Chi Psi along with help from the Chi Psi Corporation are making extensive adjustments as we prepare for the beginning of the academic year and the reactivation of the Lodge: reconfiguring occupancy levels in sleeping quarters to ensure only single rooms, continuing twice weekly professional cleaning services (Monday and Thursday) and enhancing daily cleaning/sterilization practices, modifying meal services, and establishing Lodge protocols to promote a safe environment for our Brothers. This will be far from a typical year in the Lodge, with increased requirements for personal hygiene, cleaning duties, distancing, masks, along with the restrictions for room capacities, guests and social gatherings. We encourage everyone to review UO’s plans along with our Lodge Reactivation Plan and Lodge Protocols to ensure complete understanding of the new protocols in Chi Psi and at University of Oregon.
The safeguards and restrictions are tedious for those of us with limited virus risks, but we must do our best to protect our Brothers, families and friends who may be more vulnerable. Larger parts of our country are clearly struggling to adhere to safe practices and limit virus transmission. We hope that thoughtful preparation and Chi Psi’s commitment to excellence will ensure our success.
Best Regards,
